What
is a "setup" charge? |
Anytime a product is imprinted with
a logo, a screen or film must be made to apply that logo. Each color
requires a separate film/screen; therefore, a 24 color logo
will cost considerably more than a one color imprint. In the case
of more than one color in the logo, each color is a separate setup/screen
charge. |
What
is "camera ready art?" |
Many clients consider a business card
as camera ready art. One must look at the art and consider how clean
or clear it appears. Remember that the art presented will be made
into a film and that the camera literally transfers all the marks
and lines. Letterheads and business cards are not camera ready. There
is some bleeding of ink on the paper stock, so the lines are not
as crisp as true camera ready art. Generally, the printer for your
letterhead can provide a sheet with the logo in various sizes and
color separated, if necessary. |
What
is "straight line copy?" |
Straight line copy is exactly 1-6 words
in a straight line format using standard text in one or more lines.
An example is a company name, address and phone number. One must
be specific on the font, all upper or all lower case or a mix, and
how many lines of copy or captions they require. Please note that
a corporate logo is NOT straight line copy. |
Why
are there minimum orders? |
Manufacturers must set up for production
with your product, specific logo, special color selections and location.
Each order is custom, so to set up all the basics can be time consuming.
They need to recoup those costs in the product. Many times the setup
is figured in the cost of the item itself. If you order 1-10 quantity
for a 50 cent item, the total purchase price is $5.00. But the labor
alone could be $100-$150. If the quantity is 100 items, a $1.00 labor
cost could be added to the product. For example, 10 items at the
cost of 50 cents plus the labor cost of $100 is $105. 100 items at
$1.50 is $150. In this case, it is more cost effective to order the
100 items which is probably the manufacturer's suggested minimum. |
